Hey Monday, how did you get here so fast?
How was your weekend? Is it just me, or did the weekend totally fly by?!? I took last Friday off, so I had a three-day weekend (that still went by in the blink of an eye.
Friday I taught class, and then headed on over to Barre 3 for a free workout in celebration of their 3rd birthday. I had done at home Barre workouts before, but it was my first studio experience. It was awesome! I had a blast, and left feeling happy, energized and very sure that I would be sore the next day (spoiler, I was very sore the next day).
The rest of the day was spent getting ready for the hubs’ graduation party, and relaxing with the babes.
Saturday was all about celebrating the graduate.
We had a gathering at the house, and enjoying lots of yummy eats: fruit, veggies, mini chimis, taquitos, beans, rice, sangria, and of course, cake!
We started mid afternoon so everyone’s kiddos could enjoy the festivities. It was a blast catching up with family and friends and celebrating the hubs accomplishments.
Sunday morning we just kicked back with the kiddos and relaxed. In the afternoon, I attended a dear friend’s baby shower. It was beautiful, and I can not wait to meet her sweet babe later this summer.
On Sunday I also spent some time meal planning and prepping. The last few weeks have been kind of hit or miss on the meal front, with lots of indulgences. I have not been feeling my healthiest. So I really want to get back on track making healthy food choices, as well as exercising consistently, getting some sleep, and just making healthy choices all around.
I also decided to try something new! I started a Whole 30 challenge on Sunday. For those of you not familiar with Whole 30, it is a 30 day diet, that focuses on eating whole foods. The diet consists largely of proteins, fruits and vegetables, and prohibits a number of foods. There is no dairy, sugar, alcohol, beans, or grains while on the Whole 30 diet. I have always been a bit weary of Whole 30, or really any diet that cuts out groups of foods. I am more of an everything in moderation person. Also, I love grains, smoothies, and cheese (and wine) and feel these can all be part of healthy diet.
However, I felt ready to try something new, and kind of in need of a break from the extra desserts, rich foods and drinks that I have been indulging in the last few weeks. I figure it can be a good learning experience, and an opportunity to really think about my food choices. Also, I have known several people have tried it, and really loved how they felt on the plan.
Have you ever tried Whole 30, or any other diet plan? What did you think? If you have done Whole 30, any recipes I should try?
While I will be abstaining from oatmeal for a little while, I did make some delicious slow cooker peach oatmeal last week, that I will be sharing tomorrow.
Hope you have a great one!
