In a day off…

Happy Wednesday friends!  For folks in the U.S., how was your Fourth of July?  Sorry for my absence yesterday.  I had initially planned a post, but ended up deciding to take the day off to enjoy some time with my little family, as well as attending a pool party with friends in the afternoon.

I think I mentioned this last week, but I took Monday off to have a four-day weekend.  I was in need of a catch up day.  The hubs worked on Monday and the kid’s school was open  So it worked out as the perfect day for me to spend a little quality time with me, and catch up on life.  I always enjoy day in the life type posts, so I thought I would share what my Monday was like.

The day started bright and early, about 4:30AM.  I had planned on taking a little time before anyone was up to work on some blog things, but my little guy joined me at about 4:40AM.  I got some good snuggles out of it though, so I can’t complain.

A little before 6:00AM, I was off to teach class.  The gym was pretty quiet, but there was a good little group that showed.  I also got to try out my new water bottle, which I am in love with.  I really think water tastes better out of glass vs. plastic.  Amazon carries these bottles here.

After class I headed over to Starbucks to enjoy some breakfast and a little reading.  The hubs was laughing at me the night before, because I was really looking forward to this part of my day.  I don’t often get the opportunity to have a leisurely breakfast though.  I am almost done with this book.  It is a book club book about a double agent during the Vietnam War era, it is really interesting.

After breakfast, I headed to a Barre class.  Two days of Barre in a row, plus teaching has left me a bit sore.  A foam roller date is definitely needed.  I don’t normally try to take a class right after teaching.  But I rarely have the opportunity to make it to this Barre studio.  So I had to go for it.  They have the cutest little shop at the studio.  I didn’t buy anything, but this tank was really speaking to me.

I actually found it on Amazon when I get home, so maybe it will still happen. Here it is, if you want to check it out.

After Barre, I got home about 10:00AM and threw dinner in the crockpot.  It is a chicken and rice/quinoa dish I am testing out.  I hope to share it soon, but it is not quite blog ready just yet.  I also took advantage of a quiet house, and had a mini spa day instead of just a quick shower.  I deep conditioned my hair, and relaxed with a face mask for a few minutes.  It was glorious.

I also did a little work on the blog.  I added recipe and workout categories so that it is a little easier to find things.  I will continue to work on some formatting things.  If there is anything you would like to see, please let me know!

After some stuff around the house, I headed to the bank about 1:00PM, then ran over to Kohl’s.  I had not planned to go shopping, but it was next door to the bank, and I had a little time to kill.  I am glad I did.  They were having some great sales and I scored some new gym shoes (which I really needed) for half off, as well as this super cute workout tank for $5.00.

I was then off to my appointment to give blood.  It was pretty quick and painless, and I scored this new gym bag.  It was a promotion they had for the holiday.

About 3:15PM I picked up the babies from school.  We came home, played a bit, had dinner and baked a cake.  The little guy loves helping in the kitchen and we had a great time preparing a Jello poke cake for a 4th of July party we had the next day.

After the kids were in bed, I spent a little time catching up with the hubs, before crashing around 9:00PM.

All in all, it was a great catch up day.  I love having a day every now and then to run errands and catch up on chores.  I felt like I allowed myself to enjoy the holiday more, having gotten some of my to-do list done the day before.

Do you ever take catch up days?  When you have a day off, do you tend to try to pack as much as possible in?  Or take the day to relax?

  1. I think it’s great to take a day off every once and a while…we get the days so we shouldn’t feel bad about using them! I tend to be pretty productive on my days off, unless I am on vacation or really sick.

  2. Great deal on that tank! I love a good find! I am terrible about trying to pack too much into my schedule when I have a day off. With little ones it is hard to find time for ourselves. I’m glad you were able to enjoy it!
