Weekend recap – 8/28/17

Hey friends, how was your weekend? We had a great one over here.  Before we get into my weekend recap though, I wanted to send my well wishes to everyone impacted by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey.  My thoughts are with you all!

Now for the weekend, Friday evening started with our fantasy football draft.  I took the babies to my moms for the evening and the hubs and I headed out to meet our draft group at a local restaurant.  I did zero research to get ready for the draft, but I think I did okay.  It was great to catch up with some old friends and enjoy a rare evening out. I love doing the draft because it keeps me connected with some friends over the football season.  Also, it keeps me a bit more invested in actually watching football, which I am only semi invested in otherwise.

Saturday morning started early with an Orangetheory class.  I didn’t have high expectations for my performance.  With the babies and I being sick last week, it was my first class in a week and a half,  so I was pretty excited when I achieved a personal best number of splat points.

After Orangetheory I ate breakfast before teaching my class.  We then ran a few family errands before nap time.  In the afternoon we had some family coming in to visit for the weekend.  My grandmother and father got in around the time the babies got up from their naps, so we headed over to meet them as soon as the kiddos were up.  I was greeted by a homemade tortilla (grandma food is the best food).

We enjoyed a nice, lazy Saturday afternoon visiting and playing with the kids.  The hubs then took the little lady home to bed (she doesn’t sleep great away from home), but the little guy and I had a slumber party with grandparents.   The next morning we were up bright and early, and I got to enjoy this beautiful sunrise with my coffee.

We also had some visitors come right up to the door (there were two of them).  I was surprised that they would come so close.  They spent a few minutes checking things out before continuing on their way.

After getting up and around, the rest of the family rejoined us to hang out and have breakfast.   After breakfast, our visiting family headed back to Phoenix and I was off to book club.  Our book club book was The Handmaid’s Tale, which I had read before, but not recently, so I was not totally up on all the details.  It was a lovely time catching up and digging into this delicious Nutella and strawberry crepe.

I also got to hold a friend’s baby, it is always such a treat to snuggle little babies!

The rest of Sunday was spent on the usual chores: grocery shopping, laundry, etc.  We set up the kid’s water table on the back porch, so we had a nice time watching them splash about.  I got a new yoga block and jump rope this weekend, so I had to play with those a bit as well.  My old jump rope broke about a year ago and I had not replaced it until now.  I had forgotten what a great workout jumping rope is!

We ended the evening with the season finale of Game of Thrones. I cannot believe the season is already over!

How was your weekend?  Any fun adventures?  Any show suggestions for me now that Game of Thrones is over?  I will need something to fill that Sunday night void.

  1. The Handmaids Tale has been on my reading list. May need to bump it up in the queue.

Dang you make me want to go snuggle one of my baby cousins right now instead of being at work! 🙂

  2. That crepe looks delicious! I haven’t read “The Handmaid’s Tale”, did you like it?

Yes grandma food is so good, I can’t wait to get my fill in this weekend. Have a great Monday 🙂

  3. Looks like you had a great weekend – and now I want a crepe! Yum.

I need to read Handmaid’s Tale! I’ve been putting off watching the show because I want to read the book first 🙂 did you like it?

    1. I did like it, it has been a couple years since I read it, so I feel a little fuzzy on the details, but have started watching the show now. Let me know if you read it.

    1. The one we use tells you the players rankings and what positions you need to fill, so I use that as a guide. I also totally pick players because I like their name, they have a cool hairstyle, etc.

  4. I haven’t watched the GoT finale yet, but I will tonight! I’m so sad the season is over 🙁 I’m already going through withdrawals….
Looks like you had an awesome weekend – grandma’s food is always the best 🙂
    Have a great day!

  5. RIP GOT we will miss you! #icedragon lol Anyways now that I got that out of my system I can’t believe those javelinas got so freaking close!!!! I saw them outside my house when we lived on a reserve in Ahwatukee but those ones were HUGE. I like Tucson’s smaller variety!

    1. Not gonna lie, I was pretty freaked out by them being on the porch like that. I have heard stories of them ramming people’s garage doors before. Fortunately the two we saw just hung out a bit and then went upon their merry way. Huge ones would definitely be a little scary.

  6. I have been thinking about reading “A Handmaid’s Tale,” but haven’t committed yet because I’m afraid it might be a little too “real” for me… But if you liked it, I might have to try it out!

    1. I don’t know I would have jumped to do fantasy football without the hubs taking the initiative to set it up, but I do enjoy it. Hope you are having a great day!

  7. I literally got so distracted reading this once I saw the crepe pic (I haven’t eaten breakfast yet, hah). looks SO GOOD. Also, was super jelly when I saw your orange theory post on Insta this weekend!!! Hope you have a great week!! 🙂

  8. I feel like we would be friends in real life! I love doing fantasy football for the exact same reasons you do- and I’m terrible at research, I just cross me fingers and hope for the best 😂 And I’ve been trying to find a book club around Charlotte!

    1. I feel the same way when I read your blog, great minds! You could start one. For the ones I am in, we generally take turns picking and hosting, so it’s not much pressure or organizing time.

  9. What a fun weekend update! We got to have breakfast with my daddy – it’s an almost weekly thing for the 3 of us, but still. We lost my mama almost 3 years ago and this is one hour or so of loneliness we can fill up for him and he fills us up with himself. I also had time to write, take some fun nature photos, read, and nap. It was good!
