Coffee Date

Hey guys! Can you believe that our last coffee date was in August?  I had planned to make it a monthly thing but completely spaced it.  Since we are obviously due, grab some coffee or tea and let’s catch up!

If we were having coffee I would probably order hot coffee.  I am very seasonal about my coffee, if the weather is warm I am all about the iced.  When it is cold (or you know, under 70), I am all about the hot coffee.  Recently the early mornings have been cool enough for me to enjoy my coffee hot.  If we were both in Tucson, I’d probably see if you wanted to grab a donut to go with our coffees as well.  I have not been to Amy’s Donuts since this past summer, but their Elvis donut is calling my name.

I would want to hear all about your upcoming holiday plans.  Do you have a long weekend coming up?  If so, are you going anywhere?  What are you doing for Thanksgiving?  I am super excited to be going to visit my brother and sister-in-law in Oregon in a few days,  I have missed them tons!  I am also excited about some fall weather and rain.  While it is cooling off in Tucson, it is still pretty warm and it has been pretty dry the last couple of months.

We are taking a break from hosting Thanksgiving this year, which as it turns out, means we will be having two Thanksgivings!  I really love Thanksgiving.  To me, it is totally a holiday for hanging out with family and enjoying some of the best comfort foods.  Also, the traditional Thanksgiving dinner is an all-time favorite of mine.  I am so excited for stuffing, sweet potatoes and green beans (I like turkey too, but I am all about the Thanksgiving sides).  I am also all about the pecan pie, which I try to limit to just Thanksgiving because it is a serious calorie bomb.  If you know of a lighter pecan pie recipe that is awesome, please let this girl know.

I’d probably tell you about my favorite little girl’s birthday plans.  She will be two this month (slow down time) and when I asked what she wanted to do for her birthday, her response was “cake.”  The hubs and I were having a hard time deciding what to do for her birthday but ultimately decided to have a series of small activities and gatherings so she could be celebrated all week and get to enjoy more one on one time with family, rather than having a big party.  I am super excited to celebrate my baby girl’s big day and am thinking that I need to be careful with how much cake is going to be around.

I’d love to hear how you and yours are doing. How’s work? How are the kids? The fur babies?

We are all good and keeping busy over here.  I have been studying for my Group Instructor certification and it has been fun (I miss school now that it’s not a regular part of my life) but it is a real challenge to find time to study.  It is part of my continuing education for my personal trainer certification and I am so glad that started early so I can take my time a little.

I will leave you with this beautiful sunrise I stumbled out into the other day.  I left my house at just the right time and was treated to such a beautiful display.  I just love this time of year.

Your turn!  Tell me something that is going on in your life.  What’s your favorite holiday?  What are you looking forward to or working on?

Hope you have a great day!

  1. I am so excited for the holidays this year. It is our first season as a family of 5 (including the fur babies). I would tell you how crazy you are for missing school and then whine about finishing my masters. It is a blessing but for reals I am over it! 😉

    1. Great job with school! Lol, I love studying and learning but I don’t miss the work load of grad school. When are you done? I’m glad you guys get to experience the holidays all together this year.

  2. That sunrise is beautiful! I like the idea od celebrating your daughter’s birthday throughout the week instead of a big party. It’ll probably be less stressful for you!

My favorite holiday is Fourth of July! Not most people’s favorite but my birthday is July 3rd so I think that factors into it a lot and I usually spend the days boating and eating lots of food with family when I was growing up. For Thanksgiving this year I’m staying in New Jersey to celebrate with my boyfriend and his family which will be interesting. I’m keeping one tradition alive though and making him do a Turkey Trot 5k that morning. I’m sure he’s already thinking of ways to get out of it. For Christmas though we will spend a few days before Christmas with my family in Chicago before flying back to Jersey in the early afternoon for dinner with his. It’ll be a crazy weekend for sure but lots of fun at the same time 🙂

    1. The Fourth of July would be a great holiday to have your birthday line up with! The summer holiday festivities are so fun, I love summer food and am jealous you boating/water around. A Turkey Trot sounds fun, I️ was thinking about doing one this year since I won’t be cooking. Sounds like you have some awesome holiday plans coming up!

      1. I highly recommend a Turkey Trot! You can get a little exercise in before indulging. Plus the entry fee for most goes towards charity, at least of the one in my hometown and the ones I found near me in Jersey do.

  3. Would love one of those Elvis donuts. We enjoy Thanksgiving so much. It is all about the food and being with family and friends. No pressure of gift buying.

  4. I’d love a coffee to go with my donut! It has really started to look like winter here, the last 3 days have been nothing but gray. I’m ready for the holiday seasons, I love the food traditions and being cozy with family 🙂 What part of Oregon does your brother live in? I loveddd Portland when I lived there for 3 months.

  5. Wow that elvis donut!! Holy cow.
I would have a hard time choosing between iced coffee and hot chocolate! I am one of those weirdos that drinks iced coffee year round…even when it’s snowing!
My favorite holiday is Christmas and I’m so excited to soak up all the family time!

    1. That donut really does rock my world, one day I will get around to going and getting another one. I am really looking forward to the holiday family time as well. Hope you have a great day!

  6. Beautiful sunrise!
I’d love to meet for coffee and have one of those donuts! I’d tell you I love the Thanksgiving sides the best too.

  7. awww hot coffee yeah for hot coffee! ha ha finally getting cooler here! I love me some PECAN pie working on a less calorie bomb recipe today!

  8. Ugh! I wish I could reach through this screen and take that doughnut right out of your hand!!! I have a significant birthday coming this weekend! I’m super excited to spend time with a small group of family and friends! I became an Aunt today! <3 I'm loving the feeling! We are finally finishing up our farmhouse table! I can't wait to get it in my dinning room! We are going to make so many memories around that table! <3

  9. Mmm, that donut looks so good! My favorite holiday is definitely Christmas, but I’m excited for Thanksgiving too. We’re traveling to Wisconsin thie year and while I’m not usually a cold weather person, I’m actually excited for it because it’s been so warm here in Austin this year.

  10. This time of year is just my favorite. And I’m so excited because this year my daughter and I will be going to South Carolina with my parents for the week after Christmas – which is something we did when I was growing up. I’m so glad I get to show Zoey the beaches I grew up loving!

  11. My favorite time of year is actually November and December. I love the coziness and all the trees. I also love to make it a point to go see Christmas lights with my family. We go to bazaars and sales, and just different Christmas like events. I truly enjoy spending time with my family during these crazy months because it keeps me grounded. My family doesn’t really do much for Thanksgiving, we’re more of a black Friday shopping kind of family.

    1. Sounds like some wonderful traditions! I love this time of year as well. I️ think my kids will be into Christmas lights this year as well, so I am looking forward to taking them to see some. Hope you have a great day!

  12. This makes me excited for the holidays! I also really like my lattes to be hot so I’m glad when the weather dips (below 70 around here, too) cool enough to enjoy it.

And yes to Thanksgiving dinner being all about the sides. My favorites are sweet potato casserole and corn pudding!

  13. haha, I’m so structured with my coffee. If it’s morning, it has to be hot. If its the afternoon summer maybe/probably iced. Sometimes in the winter I’ll do Iced. haha. I love Thanksgiving! I’m working the holiday but I have off for 6 days after so I’ll get to see my family for a while and I’m excited 🙂 Sounds like a great idea for her birthday plans!!
