Friday Favorites – 11/17/17

Hey! Happy Friday!  How are you today? How was your week?

It has been an emotional one over here, but I have been trying to focus on positives, such as celebrating my baby girl’s second birthday and getting ready for the upcoming holidays.  Yesterday was the little one’s actual birthday, and I think she had a great time.  She loves having people sing the happy birthday song to her and was sung to no less than five times before school.  Her teachers made a big fuss and we sent goodies for her to share, so she had a fun day.

In the evening, we had pizza and salad, followed by cake.  It was the first time in probably about 10 years I had written on a cake (I used to work at Baskin Robbins in high school and wrote on cakes all the time) and while it was not quite centered, I was happy with how it came out.  Especially considering how bad my normal handwriting is.

This week I have also been trying to focus on some self-care.  I indulged in a pedicure early in the week.  I also made some lavender lotion bars.  These lotion bars are so easy to make and also make a great gift.  I’ll be sharing the recipe and how to next week.

Speaking of self-care and natural products, I loved learning about some new to me natural facial cleansers on Julie’s blog this week.  I can’t wait to check out the scrub.

I have been pretty into the booch this week as well and since I was in Portland, decided to roll with one from Portland.  The Love version was my favorite.

On the workout front, it’s been a pretty mild week.  I hit up an Orangetheory class Monday and have had a short workout every day since.  I am craving a longer sweat session but just haven’t had a lot of time.  I’m hoping to squeeze in a class or two this weekend.

In the blog world. There are just so many recipes I can’t wait to try! I definitely feel motivated to spend some time in the kitchen, and for holiday entertaining and meal planning!

I LOVE pecan pie and am so excited to try Kelli’s healthier pecan pie bars.

I cannot wait to try Maureen’s homemade pumpkin bread recipe.

I definitely see this vegan sweet potato casserole happening very soon.

Megan shared a whole big list of awesome sounding recipes.

What are you loving this week?  Any fun weekend plans?  We have a few little things planned to continue celebrating the little miss and have the usual chores and stuff.

Hope you have a great weekend, see you Monday!

  1. Your cake writing skills are fabulous! Happy birthday to your little girl! And love trying new kombuchas. It has become my favorite afternoon beverage along with a little snack. Happy Weekeend 🙂

  2. I just found that brand of kombucha recently and am obsessed! I usually get the Clear Mind one because they have it at Trader Joe’s, but I also love the Love flavor and get it whenever I make it to Whole Foods. That cake looks beautiful! I also have terirble handwriting, but mine is just as bad on cakes lol so I am impressed 🙂

    1. Thanks! I’m not sure I could write something other than happy birthday, happy anniversary or congratulations and have it turn out well. I think for those words it’s almost a muscle memory thing from writing it on so many cakes.

  3. I have a family dinner on Saturday, and I have a hike planned for Sunday. I haven’t been on a cold weather hike yet this season, so I’m really excited!

And those recipes look amazing. I’m moving next week into a place with a much bigger kitchen, and I can’t wait to make some amazing foods!

  4. Happy Birthday to your little one! It sounds like she had a special day! 🙂 You did a great job on that cake!

  5. Seriously so impressed with your cake writing skills! I can decorate a cake for sure but I never write on them because it looks awful! Tell me your secrets! 😂
