Weekend Recap – Food, friends and starting my 40 day revolution

Hey friends! How was your weekend?

Last week was a hustle and bustle week for us and stayed that way for the most of the day Friday. I got off work later than normal and it was a bit of a rush getting the babies home and fed. But after they were settled in, the hubs took over bedtime duties and I headed out for drinks and snacks with a friend. We went to check out Culinary Dropout, which is a relatively new place in town but has locations in other cities. It was a pretty fun hangout spot, with games (ping pong, cornhole, etc) and a small band playing.

We enjoyed some fancy drinks and snacks while chatting away.  My drink kinda reminded me of a spicy, spiked green juice. To snack on we had the pretzel bites with fondue and a build your own antipasto. They have a variety of meats, cheeses, bread, and veggies to pick from. It was delicious.  One of our veggies was some unpictured spicy roasted brussel sprouts that I am hoping to figure out how to recreate soon.

It was a fun evening out and nice to catch up a bit.

Saturday morning we hung out and had breakfast before I left to teach. I was pretty excited when my little dude requested oatmeal. However, he ate no oatmeal and instead just ate the fruit off the top. Oh well, at least my oatmeal (with a touch of brown sugar, peanut butter, and dried blueberries) was delicious.

Later in the day, I continued my delicious eating trend by meeting a friend who was in town for lunch. We met at a local sushi spot, which happened to be having a lunch buffet at the time. I took advantage of that and had a little miso soup, a little sushi, a few of pieces of veggie tempura and a couple unpictured crab puffs. It was a delicious lunch and even better company.

After lunch, I attended my first meeting to start a 40-day program focusing on change from within and utilizing a daily yoga and meditation practice. It officially starts today. I am super excited to take some time to reflect and deepen my meditation/yoga practice. I will let you guys know how it goes.

The rest of the day was spent cheering on the UA in their win against Stanford (go cats) and chilling with my little family.

Sunday started with a bright and early Orangetheory class. It was a great workout, I missed out on getting my stats though because I could not get an accurate heart rate reading. My monitor wasn’t working properly, they lent me a different one but I still wasn’t able to get a good read. Apparently it’s me?  My heart rate would be like 120% when I was only walking and then drop to 0% for several minutes at a time, it was the strangest thing.  The staff was so nice and helpful trying to get it figured out though.

After class, I rushed home and got ready so my little guy and I could head up to Phoenix for my cousin’s baby shower. She is the cutest pregnant lady ever! I didn’t get a lot of pictures, mainly because I was chasing the little dude around most of the time, but did snag a picture of my lunch plate and the pretty drink and dessert table.

It was really nice to catch up with the family and celebrate my cousin and her baby. I can’t wait to meet the little one.

Once we got home, we got ready for the week, and I put together this little post.

  1. I love pretzels and fondue as a little snack while out for drinks! It sounds like a wonderful weekend Emily. This week, I’m most looking forward to adding in a bit more strength training to my routine after workouts.

    1. It was a really fun weekend! Nice! Do you have a strength plan you are following or more focusing on adding in some strength exercises after runs?

    1. Thanks! I definitely enjoyed starting the day with a little yoga, I’m excited to see how I feel a few weeks in.

    1. It was so much food! Lots of fun though. I will keep ya posted, I am definitely excited about the focus on yoga and meditation and excited to see how I feel once I get fully immersed in it.

    1. I love my yoga, but am bad about meditating. Like even in savasana at the end of a yoga class I’m antsy and want to get up. So I think it will be a challenge, but in a really good way. Hope your week is off to a great start!

  3. I’m so intrigued by this 40 Day Revolution; I can’t wait to hear how it goes! I had a weekend full of lecture writing and class prep – ha. Not too exciting. Here’s hoping next weekend will have a bit more play time 🙂
