Weekend Highlights – Books & Barre

Hey friends! How was your weekend? Is it feeling like summer where you’re at? It definitely is here. This weekend was full of little adventures, just like I like it. It also involved lots of cleaning, shout out to the hubs who is a master kitchen cleaner!

Saturday morning started bright and early with some family grocery shopping, before I was off for a workout. Our local Barre 3 was celebrating their fourth birthday with free classes, so a friend and I hit up an early class. I had not taken an in person barre class in a while, and it was a blissfully hard class. The also had a DJ and lots of fun festivities going on before and after class.

After class, the family and I headed to our little dude’s end of season basketball performance. He was feeling a bit shy, and ended up sitting with me for most of the performance.  But it was still nice to see what skills they learned this year. He also enjoyed everyone cheering when he got his trophy.

In the afternoon, we went to check out the snakes at a nearby pet store (kids love it, but they always freak me out a bit).

Dinner was Sauce takeout, including my favorite potato pizza and roasted veggie salad. The hubs selected a sausage and caramelized onion pizza, which was also delicious.

Sunday, we were all up early and I was craving pancakes, so we went to breakfast at a nearby restaurant known for their pancakes. We all shared a pecan roll pancake, which was sweet, fluffy decadence.  I had some eggs and bacon on the side for a little savory balance.

We spent the rest of the morning swimming, before heading home to get ready for my book club. It’s my month to host, so lots of cleaning and what not to do. This book club is a potluck style, so everyone brings something to share. I made a cinnamon cake with cinnamon glaze, adapted from this recipe. As well as some honey goat cheese balls with green onion and cranberry. I was so please with how the goat cheese balls turned out, I will put together the recipe and share later this week.

The book we read was My Abandonment, which follows a 13 year old girl who at the start of the book is living in the forest outside of Portland, OR with her father.  To be honest, I am still not sure what I think about this book, it is interesting and kind of dark.  I just still have so many questions about the main characters.  They are coming out with a movie adaptation.  Which I kind of want to see, to see how they present the characters.

Sunday wrapped up with a nice, sweaty power yoga class and a cup of reishi mushroom elixir. I have really been enjoying the mushroom elixirs, this one is supposed to help support healthy sleep.  I was feeling pretty relaxed after yoga already, but a little additional relaxation help never hurts.

So tell me about your weekend. Was it a relaxing one? Busy? Combo of both? Did you watch the royal wedding? I did not, but from the pictures I have seen floating around Facebook, it looked lovely.

Looking for a workout to start off your week? How about this circuit workout or a quick cardio workout.

Hope you have a great day!

  1. Ohhh I am terrified of snakes! That picture made me jump.
Glad you had a good weekend and that book club went well. Those goat cheese bites do look yummy- looking forward to the recipe.

    1. Right! Even behind glass they make my skin crawl, the kids think they are so cool though.

Thanks Julie! Hope you had a great weekend.

  2. I’m not a snake fan but whatever keeps kid entertained right?! The cinnamon cake looks delicious! I’m a sucker for recipes like that and would probably eat a cinnmaon roll/coffee cake/cinnamon cake every day if I could.

    1. I was really happy with how it turned out. I pretty much made it true to the recipe, but added a cinnamon glaze. It made another loaf that we stuck in the freezer, so I’m looking forward to being able to pull it a piece to have with coffee when the sweet tooth strikes.

  3. Oh gosh snakes are not my jam at all! Looks like you ate so good this weekend! I’m jealous of those cinnamon rolls!

    1. Their pancakes are so good. Cake is not may favorite dessert either, I liked this one because it reminded me more of a coffee cake, rather than a traditional cake.

  4. What a fun weekend! That cinnamon cake you made for the book club looks so yummy!! I had a pretty good weekend; saw my nieces and nephew a lot. They swam a bit but I haven’t gotten in yet. I need a new bathing suit!

    1. Thank you! That’s always fun. I know Old Navy has all their suits on sale right now if you like their styles.

      1. Have you tried the oh she glows ones? I haven’t tried them but they look good. I don’t know if her recipe as written is gf, but definitely dairy free.

      2. If you make them, I’d love to hear how they turn out and how much work they are.

  5. This sounds like it was a great weekend! We also had a busy weekend, and now we are preparing for Memorial Day BBQ! Summer is here! Also that pizza looks so yum!

    1. I don’t think I would have tried it on my own, but a friend ordered one once and let me try it, and I was hooked.

  6. I hate snakes!! We always freak when we see them in the lake…yuck!
I haven’t done a barre workout class in forever, but I remember really liking them.
    Enjoy your week!

    1. Oh my gosh, I would totally freak if I saw one in the water near me. Hope you are having a great week Erinn!

  7. Those cinnamon roll pancakes look divine! There’s a place here called “snooze” and they always have interesting pancakes such as “orange creamsicle” and sweet potato pancakes topped with cinnamon sugar butter.

  8. I love weekends full of cleaning too, I feel like I can do anything when everything is clean and in order! That’s so fun your Barre class had a DJ?! How cool! I’ve never been to one but it’s on my list to try in the next few weeks. Congrats to your little one, such a cute trophy! That potato pizza looks insanely good- the two best carbs put together?! Yes please!!

    1. The barre classes are fun and such a good work out, let me know if you get a chance to go to one. He was so proud of his trophy. Hope you have a great weekend!
